What do I do with chipmunks in my interlock?
I recommend death. That is the best thing for chipmunks in interlock.
What am I talking about?
Sometimes chipmunks do not content themselves with mindless scurrying and stuffing their cheeks and looking cute and decide to dig tunnels underneath walkways and patios. This causes the interlock to sink drastically, as the bedding layer and joint fill and base all recedes into the tunnels as they collapse.
So how do we deal with this problem?
I know of someone who put a length of tubing underneath the interlock as a little Chunnel for them to use to get under the walkway, but sadly, the chipmunks didn’t take him up on his generosity.
The key is to get rid of the chipmunks. You may do that however you wish, though I recommend you get a professional to make sure they are gone forever.
Once they are gone, you want to lift up the section of the patio or walkway that has been tunneled under and use a heavy plate compactor or jumping jack to compact it very very well. You want to make it hard for the chipmunk’s brother and aunt and second cousin to move into the chipmunks home.
Then build the base and bedding layer up again.
It is pretty simple.
Dispose of the animal.
Build it back super strong and densely.
The end.
