Why are there weeds in my interlock?

Good question!

There are many reasons.

The first and foremost is this: weeds love to grow where you don’t want them to, so of course there are weeds in your interlock!!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

But the more interesting reasons?

Those are interesting. I will describe what happens in story format.

Here is the story.

Once upon a time some interlock builders, (either contractors or homeowners, or second cousins of homeowners), built an interlock patio. And they put sand in the joints between the pavers.

After a few days, a boy named Bill (not Sue) decided to walk over the patio with muddy feet. And he left some mud on one of the joints. And after three months and twenty days a bird pooped on the mud.

β€œWhat a crazy random happenstance!!!” you might think. But it happens all the time.

Soooooo this bird pooped, and its poop had a seed in it. A live seed. A weed seed!

And the see sprouted in the mud. And it received rain from the heavens. And it grew roots.

And it did something that plants are good at.

It molded its habitat. It terraformed the interlock joint it sat in, and its little roots caught bits of dirt and water and grew and grew.

Meanwhile, elsewhere, more mud was getting tracked across the patio and more birds were pooping seeds.

And gradually, slowly but surely, the patio became a weed infested zone.

That is why there are weeds in your interlock.

Dirt is tracked or blown across your patio by the wind. Seeds in the dirt or in birds’ bottoms are spread. The rain rains. The sun suns. And gradually the weeds grow and become strong. They push the sand out and push the pavers around. The mob rules.

That was just one reason. So here is another:

Weeds also like to come in from the edge of the patio or walkway. They spread roots from the lawn or garden and worm their way in. They are persistent and evil.

How do I prevent weeds from growing on my patio or walkway?

I will tell you. But not yet.
